7th Street Kids brings Honk!, a musical rendition of “The Ugly Duckling,” to the 7th Street Theater August 1, 2, and 3.
7th Street Kids presented Honk! Jr in the summer of 2004 and is excited to present the full version of this delightful and witty “Poultry Tale” this summer.
When the story begins, Ida is in the duck yard contemplating the “Joys of Motherhood” as she waits for her ducklings to hatch. Even before he emerges from his egg, it is obvious that one of the ducklings is going to be “Different”. Ugly is not like his brothers and sisters. Although he swims much better than the other ducklings, that is not the reason that the other barn yard animals “Look at Him” and point. His mother instructs him to “Hold Your Head Up High”, but he still has a hard time getting along with the other barn yard fowl. He tries, but he can’t even ‘quack’ like the other ducklings. Cat, who believes it is OK to “Play with Your Food”, is the only one who wants to play with Ugly and entices him to leave the duck yard. By the time Ugly manages to escape the conniving Cat, he is “Lost”.
Will Ugly ever be good for anything but dinner? Will he ever be reunited with his mother? Will he ever find someone who will love him “Warts and All”?
Come to the 7th Street Theater and join Ugly on his quest to find out where an odd duck belongs and what it means to be different. HONK!
