7th Street Kids present Once on This Island July 30, 31 and August 1
This summer, 7th Street Kids will present Once on This Island at the 7th Street Theatre. This is a magical, mythical musical with Caribbean-style music, energetic dances, and colorful sets and costumes. It tells the tale of Ti Moune, a peasant girl on a Caribbean island, who falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from one of the island’s powerful ruling families. As a young child, Ti Moune’s life is saved by the capricious gods of the island during a powerful storm. She grows up believing that she was saved for a purpose. Against a backdrop of prejudice and hatred, the bittersweet story of Ti Moune’s love and her journey to find her life’s purpose reveal the strength and perseverance of the human spirit.
The 7th Street Kids will perform Once on This Island for the public on Friday and Saturday, July 30 and 31, at 7:30 PM and Sunday, August 1 at 2 PM. Tickets will cost $10 for adults and $5 for children, students, and senior citizens. They will be available at Rosevear’s, Harbor Drug, and at the 7th Street Theater box office one hour before performances.

Who are the 7th Street Kids?
7th Street Kids is a non-profit 501c(3) corporation and is governed by a 20-member Board of Directors, who meet the fourth Monday of each month. The Board hires the Producer and Directors to oversee the summer workshop program and work with the Kids. Annual financial support comes from tuition, contributions, and ticket sales. Major support has also been received from the E.K. & Lillian F. Bishop Foundation and the Oakmead Foundation.
7TH STREET KIDS organize a six-week summer program for kids who are 7 through 16 years by June 15 who want to experience the fun of musical theatre. The highlight is the performance of a major musical theatre work. Under the guidance of outstanding directors, each Kid participates in auditions and rehearsals, helps back stage, even constructing sets, and then sings and dances in the show.
Micki Colwell started 7TH STREET KIDS in 1992. Her dream was a musical theater program for kids in the wonderful old 7th St Theatre - a place where she had often seen live theater performed. Over the years this program has touched more than 600 children. In turn, these 7th Street Kids have brought the joy of live musical theater to hundreds more, and many of them are still entertaining us on our high school, Grays Harbor College, and Driftwood stages.
