Concert:Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee presents:
Lounge Acts 2008
September 13, 2008 @ 7 pm, Doors @ 6:30
Tickets: $20
(ticket outlets to be announced at a later date)
Following last year's highly successful Lounge Acts fundraiser, the nonprofit Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee is revisiting the 7th Street Theatre for this year's follow-up show. Lounge Acts 2008 features national acts and co-headliners Harvey Danger and Schoolyard Heroes.
Harvey Danger's infectious post-grunge song "Flagpole Sitta," (Sing: I'm not sick, but I'm not welllll ..) became an inescapable summer staple on commercial radio and MTV in the late 1990s, and the band's first album, "Where Have All the Merrymakers Gone?" went on to sell more than half a million copies. The group's latest release, "Little by Little," was co-produced by Steve Fisk, who previously had worked with Nirvana.
Female-fronted
Schoolyard Heroes' latest album, "Abominations,"
has quickly become a favorite of rock fans that like their music loud, melodic, and occasionally a bit creepy. The album's first single, "The Plastic Surgery Hall of Fame," (Sing: You're so pretty and you're so dead) has become an instant classic in its genre and the song's haunting video has found its way into rotation on MTV2 and VH1. The band's live set has been described by several media outlets as "don't miss."
Local bands Black Top Demon and Gebular earned the opening spots at this year's Lounge Acts via their "battle of the bands" victories over more than a dozen other bands June 7 at The Road to Lounge Acts held at a sold-out Polish Club in Aberdeen. The committee was set on picking just one band but decided to pick two due to both bands' solid performances.
All proceeds go toward the committee's goal, which is to build a youth center in Kurt Cobain's honor.
