A thought-provoking drama that digs far deeper than the foregone conclusion of a seemingly simple murder trial, “12 Angry Men” is the next offering of the Silver Screen Classics Film Series.
The film directorial debut of Sidney Lumet, “12 Angry Men” takes place almost entirely in the jury room where a young man’s guilt or innocence is being debated. But rather than a courtroom drama, it works as an examination of a dozen sets of personalities, perspectives and prejudices, all applied to the idea of what it really means to find a defendant guilty “beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Based on a television play, the black-and-white film featured Henry Fonda, the only known star in the cast. But several others would go on to become famous, among them Lee J. Cobb, Martin Balsam, E. G. Marshall, Jack Klugman, Ed Begley and Jack Warden.
Locally sponsored by Nancy Akers, Grays Harbor College, Swanson’s Foods, Hoquiam Senior Center and Grays Harbor/Pacific County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
